I appreciate this story, as hard as it is. I see that I made a very similar mistake. I called a meeting without having a follow-up strategy. And after the meeting, I realized that I had not developed trust with anyone in the area (a different town then where I live), and so it was unmanageable to do any follow-up with anyone. And, sad to say, I had to just drop it. And, the more time that goes by, the more credibility is lost.
