I so appreciate this message, humiliating though it is! In trying to start a partnership (thought it wasn’t called that), I was advised to hold a conference. So, i single-handedly organized, funded and led two conferences (in different cities) in the same week. I planned for 40 at the first, and there were twelve participants. The second was better attended, but no real relationships were built. So, both felt like a dismal failure, but I learned a lot about what NOT to do! So I have had to back up and do things in a better way (as described in this video).
